For Shopify stores

Your Shopify store, with an AI that works on it every day.

We set up AI for your Shopify store and connect it to Shopify, your email tool and your books. It follows up abandoned carts, brings first-time buyers back, watches the best sellers so they never run out and keeps your weekly numbers in one place. Then our AI keeps making it better, with a real person on a call every month.

AI in Shopify stores today

Shopify has pushed AI into nearly every part of running a store, and its own numbers show merchants using it at scale: its Sidekick assistant handles tens of millions of conversations a quarter and has written millions of product descriptions, while AI assistants send a fast-growing, still small, stream of shoppers who convert better than average. The trouble shows up at the edges. The assistant can state a confident wrong answer with real money attached, AI-first support leaves owners unable to reach a person when something breaks, selling inside ChatGPT carries extra fees and has already been reshaped once, and the AI shopping tools lean heavily toward big chains over independents. For an owner-run store the picture is less "AI runs the shop" and more "AI does a lot of the typing, and someone still has to check it."

How it's being used

  • Shopify's Winter '26 Edition bundled more than 150 launches, most of them AI: Sidekick now suggests store improvements, edits themes from plain-English prompts, builds automations and custom admin apps, and Agentic Storefronts puts a store's products into ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot conversations after one setup in the admin. These are the platform's own claims. Shopify newsroom, December 2025
  • In the first three weeks after that release, Shopify says merchants used Sidekick to write 19.8 million product descriptions, build nearly 30,000 automations and create almost 4,000 custom apps. The platform's own usage figures. Shopify enterprise blog, March 2026
  • By mid-2026 Sidekick was handling about 34 million merchant conversations a quarter, the number of merchants using it daily was 3.6 times higher than a year earlier, and Shopify said AI-driven traffic and purchases at its merchants had tripled year over year. All figures are Shopify's own, reported with its quarterly results. Ottawa Business Journal, on Shopify's Q2 2026 results, August 2026
  • Across more than a trillion visits to US retail sites over the 2025 holiday season, traffic referred by AI assistants was up 693% on the year before, and those visitors converted 31% better than other traffic and spent 45% longer on site. Adobe's own analytics; the AI channel is still a small share of all traffic. eCommerceNews, on Adobe Analytics holiday data, January 2026
  • Among sellers on online marketplaces, 83% use AI somewhere in the business, mostly to rewrite listings and make product images. Pricing and inventory forecasting trail well behind, and sellers under $500K in revenue use it least. Marketplace Pulse, Seller Index, April 2026

Where it's going wrong

  • One merchant reported that Sidekick told them a customer had filed a double chargeback, called it fraud and advised disputing it. The merchant lost the dispute and then learned there had never been a double chargeback. Another replied that it also gives wrong answers about Shopify's own code even when asked to check the current documentation. Merchant reports, not independently verified. Shopify Community forum, August 2026
  • Merchants told The Logic that Shopify's AI support bot makes it nearly impossible to reach a person. One retailer paying for 24/7 support and a dedicated rep had not heard from that rep in about two years, and a jewelry business that could not reach a human after its banking details were changed is rebuilding on another platform. Shopify says its staff use AI to resolve issues faster. The Logic, October 2025
  • Merchants selling through ChatGPT's in-chat checkout were to pay OpenAI a 4% fee on those sales from January 2026, on top of Shopify's processing fees, putting platform and processing costs near 7% per order before shipping, returns or support. SmartCompany, fee confirmed by Shopify to The Information, January 2026
  • Six months after launch, OpenAI scaled Instant Checkout back and Shopify told merchants ChatGPT would instead work through Agentic Storefronts, on by default, with buyers usually completing the purchase on the merchant's own store. It is still unclear how many shoppers will buy inside a chat at all. Modern Retail, March 2026
  • A study of about 460,000 AI shopping answers found that, choosing between a national chain and a smaller retailer, the AI picked the chain 90 to 94% of the time when answering from memory, and chains still made up about half of recommendations with live web search on. The study was paid for by a point-of-sale company. Lightspeed, study run by Vaer AI, September 2026

What we take from it

Sidekick is good at the typing and should not be trusted with the money. The chargeback story is the pattern: a confident answer, no second look, a real loss. Your AI checks its own work against your orders, payouts and books before it suggests anything, and anything that touches a customer or a refund waits for your approval.

Shopify's AI features come and go; the Instant Checkout reversal took six months. We do not build your store around any of them. The priorities we start from are the ones that outlast the feature list: carts followed up, first-time buyers brought back, best sellers in stock, and a weekly number for each.

The shoppers arriving from AI assistants are worth more than average, and the assistants favour big chains. What tips an answer toward a small store is complete, consistent product data, true stock levels and recent reviews. Your AI keeps that housekeeping up every week, and you have a real person to call when Shopify's support bot will not put you through.

Common questions

Click a question to see the answer.

Isn't Sidekick already an AI for my store?

Sidekick works inside Shopify's admin and answers what you ask it. Your AI works across Shopify, your email tool and your books on two priorities you chose, every day, and checks its own suggestions against your real numbers before it makes them. We set it up and a real person reviews the results with you every month.

Do I need a Shopify Plus plan?

No. Any Shopify plan works. We connect through Shopify's own integration for Claude, which you authorise in your store.

Is this an app from the Shopify App Store?

No. Nothing is installed on your storefront and nothing changes for your customers. Your AI runs on a Claude subscription in your name, connected to your store.

What about the Shop app, ChatGPT and Agentic Storefronts?

We help you decide whether to turn them on and keep your product data in shape for them. We do not build your plan around features that may change; the carts, repeat buyers and stock numbers matter whichever way shoppers arrive.

What does it cost?

$1,000 a month for two priorities, plus setup from $1,500. The first step is a free 20-minute call.
